NEW YORK - James P. Duffy, III, a founding partner in the New York law firm of Berg and Duffy, LLP, was named Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s 2,000-member International Law and Practice Section.
According to Mr. Duffy, "The Section is an outstanding group of lawyers who specialize in the international practice of the law. It has Chapters in more than 40 major cities around the world. The Section is recognized as a leading body of legal thought on topics of importance to not only the international legal community but also the international business community. Thus, I feel very privileged and honored to be able to serve as its Chair."
Duffy earned his law degree from Fordham Law School (1967). He was one of the United States negotiators in the Tri-Bar negotiations with Canada and Mexico to implement the Legal Service provisions of NAFTA. He was also one of the authors of the U.S. government’s current legal services negotiating provisions in the upcoming WTO trade-in-services negotiations. Mr. Duffy currently works primarily as an international corporate transactional lawyer specializing in banking and financial transactions. Outside New York, his firm has offices in Mexico and the Principality of Monaco.
Active in the NYSBA, Duffy serves on the Committee for Legal Education and Admission to the Bar. He lectures and publishes frequently on topics related to the transnational practice of law and transnational legal services.
In addition to his NYSBA activities, Duffy serves as President of the American Club of the Riviera, the second oldest and largest American organization in France. Duffy has also previously served as President of the Riviera Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce and France, the largest and oldest American organization in France.
The 70,000-member New York State Bar Association is the official statewide organization of lawyers in New York and the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation.
