John McCabe is the producer of Who's Who Online® and studied Unix Systems Management at New York University, a big switch from the international economic development consulting work he had been doing. In fact, it was his background in that field which led him to understand early-on both the micro- and macro-economic implications of the marriage of computers and telecommunications that the Internet represents.
Prior to this, Mr. McCabe was founder and president of International Trade Promotion, Ltd. There he worked with public and private sector clients on business development issues, particularly in undertaking primary research that led to the development of effective and creative marketing strategies. He worked closely with secondary research and creative teams, and commited much of his time to work in the market. In 1994/95, he spent three months living and working in the Republic of Kazakhstan, where he worked under a World Bank contract to promote investment into that country.
Before this, he worked for six years with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, a quasi-government organization charged with promoting Hong Kong's trade with the world. As head of the New York office, his portfolio included strategic planning, marketing and public relations. Earlier in his career, Mr. McCabe worked in manufacturing with Xerox Corporation; marketing with Crystal Clear Importing Company; and retail management with the R.H. Macy Corporation, where he completed the Executive Training Program. At Macy's, he managed sales for the ready-to-wear and, subsequently, the home accessories areas.
In an effort to anticipate emerging trends in world markets, Mr. McCabe attended conferences, seminars and trade expositions around the world. He participated in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which drew scores of prime ministers and presidents for discussions on "Global Cooperation and Megacompetition." In his capacity as executive director of the Association of Foreign Trade Representatives in New York City, Mr. McCabe attended the World Economic Development Congress in Washington, DC, of which the group was a supporting association, where he participated in the Economic Policy and Marketing Summit.
His travels have brought him to Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean, as well as Canada and the United States. Mr. McCabe served as the Assistant Secretary of the United States/Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Committee from its inception through 1986.
A native of New York City, John received a bachelor of science degree in general science and psychology and a master of business administration from Fordham University. He is fluent in French, and is familiar with several other languages.
